Diagnostic Software

Extra Tcl command (wformat) for fast initial formatting of large memory widgets.

Some work still needed in DSS windows:

Experience with Heidelberg Software

Checked out from Heidelberg CVS via network.

Compiled on Linux (despite problems with Makefile).

Requires installation of (free) Qt and Qwt libraries from TrollTech.

Successfully defined some DSS register formats and opened windows etc.

Crash trying to create a histogram.

Looked a bit at the code: some very neat features. Want to look in more detail.

Not really sure how to progress. Interactive flexibility means its less easy to write DAQ or packaged test software for real modules.

Hardware Platforms

Cornelius has investigated options for upgrading their VME system.

LynxOS 2.5 plus extra 32M memory = DM 5k.
(But DAQ group say their existing memory is adequate).

Pentium PC VME processor card = DM 10k.
Cornelius looked at ones from Concurrent and Dynatem. (Apparently Mainz have a cheaper slower one).

PCI-VME bridge = DM 4-8K.

The DAQ group is now supporting Linux (but maybe not NT) on VME PCs (VMIC-78xx) and on desktop PC with PCI-VME adapter (SBS Bit3-617 as considered by Cornelius).

At QMW (and other ATLAS SCT sites?) we have a National Instruments MXI-2 PCI-VME adapter.
