I was asked to produce an A5 handout for the STFC Understanding the Higgs stand at the 2013 Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. Aimed at school age students the analogy I developed, from a similar idea by David Miller (UCL), was that of a red carpet at a movie premier (original blogpost). Those walking the red carpet are the fundamental particles; quarks and leptons. The photographers are the Higgs field and their flashing camera each a Higgs boson. I copy and paste the text and images below but the handout itself can be downloaded in different formats from here: Word PDF.
