Dr. Eram Rizvi will be delivering an evening course in particle physics at the Royal Institution in July. The course of six extended evening lectures is aimed at members of the public who wish to gain a deeper understanding of particle physics going beyond a single lecture. The course will start with look at scattering experiments including the discovery of the atomic nucleus by Rutherford 100 years ago, and then examine the theoretical and experimental developments that led to the Standard Model.
Latest results from the LHC and neutrino oscillation experiments will be presented and possible new additions to the Standard Model such as quantum gravity and supersymmetry will be discussed. The course is to be repeated in the autumn.
