Brief Biography:

NOTE: Lucio Cerrito has moved to the University of Rome Tor Vergata to take the post of Professor of Experimental Particle Physics. He is currently a Visitor to Queen Mary University of London.

Lucio Cerrito obtained a PhD in Experimental Particle Physics at University College London in 2002 after a Laurea in Physics from the Universty of Rome "La Sapienza" (Italy) in 1998. He held research positions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) (2002-04) and the University of Oxford (2005-06), as well as visiting or academic appointments at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (USA), CERN (Switzerland), University of Southampton, University of Perugia (Italy). He joined Queen Mary University of London as a Lecturer in 2006 and was promoted to Reader in 2013.
Dr Cerrito works on the ATLAS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (Switzerland) since 2007, studying the production of particles from the high energy collision of protons. He is also a member of the CDF Collaboration at the Tevatron collider in the USA since 2000, where he worked on the early alignment of the tracking detector and was responsible for the operations of the central muon detectors during the commissioning phase and until 2004.
Dr Cerrito is a member of the Institute of Physics, the European Physical Society and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research Interests:

Dr Lucio Cerrito studies the production and mass of top quarks, and the associated production of W-bosons with bottom and charm quarks, and Higgs bosons in high-energy hadronic collisions.  The analysis of the production and dynamics of heavy quarks at the energy frontier could lead to the discovery of unknown particles and forces which might further our understanding of the Universe and its space-time fabric. He is PI for the EU Action NPTEV-TQP2020.

Teaching

Dr Cerrito teaches the undergraduate course of Quantum Physics. He has taught at Queen Mary and abroad courses on Vibrations and Waves, Scientific Measurements, Review and Independent Projects, Radiation Detectors, Classical Mechanics and Electrostatics, and Classical Physics
